Manifesto: Decay in time...

“We plan our lives according to a dream that came to us in our childhood, and we find that life alters our plans. And yet, at the end, from a rare height, we also see that our dream was our fate. It's just that providence had other ideas as to how we would get there. Destiny plans a different route, or turns the dream around, as if it were a riddle, and fulfills the dream in ways we couldn't have expected.”

Apart from the colorful baloons and the smiling teddy bear, there is nothing about our site that brings the warm and fuzzy feeling of childhood. The building now stands abandoned by the decay of urbanization & time. The chatter of children and the daily routine of a class is going to be "re-created" by our team members on April 29, 2009.

We are going to let people in our "Day care" facility by "screening" them throught their Rutgers I.D. The "students" will then, follow a daily routine of any school which, would be activities such as 'Circle Time', 'Art time', 'Snack time' and 'Free play'. The strict rules of entry and exit of a Heterotopia will be seen when the I.d's are checked. The Urban decay of the day care due to lack of funding and other reasons, will be seen from the article "A Different City for a Different Life" and the issues of an 'ideal neighborhood' and the environment that would be suitable for one's own kids can be then questioned.

The difference between public and private space is seen as it gets invaded by people cutting through the site, to get to the train station. The decay of childhood is thus seen and it brings to mind a quote by Bill Cosby, “The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic.”
